Water conservation is a key way to reduce both your water and sewer bills.  The less water you use the less is your bill.  Remember both the water and sewer portion of your bill are based upon how much water you use.  Here are some ways to help conserve water.

  • Look for and fix leaks around your home and yard.

  • Turn water off while brushing teeth and shaving.

  • Install reduced flow showerheads and take shorter showers.

  • Turn your hose off while you wash the car then back on to rinse.

  • Water your yard in the cooler morning instead of the hottest part of the day so less water evaporates.

  • Test toilets for leaks.  Add a few drops of food color to the water in the toilet tank, but do not  flush.  Wait a few minutes to see if the coloring appears in the bowl of the toilet.  If it does, the toilet has a silent leak that needs to be repaired.

  • Keep cool water in the refrigerator instead of running water until it is cool.

  • Consider drought resistant plants for  your flower beds.

  • Use a sprinkler that throws large drops of water rather than a fine mist.  This will reduce water loss from evaporation and wind drift.
